Show Season is Almost Over

There is only one show left in my schedule this year. In April from the 6 th through the 9 th I’ll be in Anchorage, Alaska at the great Alaska Sportsman’s Show. I’ll have two models there to check out, our 16’ Fly Fishing Bench and our 18’ ClackaMax.

Next week I’ll be taking a few days off to do some fishing on the Oregon coast. If conditions are right, I’ll fish the Nestucca River. It has a good run of late winter native steelhead, and it also has some brood stock hatchery fish that return in March and April. During May and June this river has a nice run of spring Chinook salmon that I like to pursue. Of course fishing depends on the weather and river conditions, so, in anticipation of bad water conditions, I always have several books with me.

Enjoying some nice spring weather in the back yard with a good book and a beer.

About a week ago Bruce and I traveled to Medford, Oregon to do some demos with some guides on the upper Rogue River. As we walked outside in the morning we were a little shocked to find it snowing lightly. We met the guides and drove to the put-in and got started on the float. We had been on the water about five minutes when the snow really let loose. For two hours it came down in big fluffy flakes, turning the world white.

March snow on the upper Rogue River

I’ve lived in Oregon since 1967 and I’ve seen it snow in December, January and February, but this is the first time I’ve seen snow in March.

The show season may be coming to a close, but we’ll still be out doing some enjoyable and interesting things in the coming months. On April 22 Bruce and I will be fishing in the Gladstone High School Salmon Derby. On May 13 and 14 we will be at Spey Clave in Oxbow Park on the Sandy River. On Sunday we will have a boat at the boat launch if you want to do a short test row. You can find out more about Spey Clave by going to the Fly Fishing Shop website via the link on our website.
